A Message from the Composer

Snare Drum Simulation has been a long-standing idea of mine and one that I was scared to approach. It is based around a Man vs. Machine scenario with a video game twist. As you continue through the solo, the backing track begins to glitch and break down. Eventually, you “outplay” the machine and are triumphant. The solo took many edits, forms, and a lot of experimenting in Logic Pro X, but I’m very happy with the end result. One thing you will notice throughout the work are these “rhythmic cells.” A rhythmic cell is a short rhythm that is repeated several times over. These are often in an uneven grouping, so the rhythm is displaced from the beat, creating a driving/forward motion. This concept and so many others influenced my writing and helped me keep the idea of a snare drum solo fresh. I hope you enjoy this work and we’ll see if you can pass all ten stages of the Snare Drum Simulation.
