PATTERNS

PATTERNS is my DMA Chamber Recital featuring an amazingly talented group of peers that I have gotten to work with closely at the University of South Carolina. Through this recital, I have been able to perform some of my favorite music for percussionists + other instruments and present the world premiere of my percussion ensemble work, Assurance. The title of this recital, Patterns, refers to the many musical moments that repeat and develop throughout each piece while also drawing our attention to how we perceive the world around us. Noticing patterns is something that has been biologically built into humans in order for us to survive throughout many different eras. Finding patterns is a common tool for decoding music, but is also the way we often understand people, history, culture, relationships, and more. Patterns can be beautiful or destructive and noticing them can be the difference between repeating history and moving forward. This program ultimately asks the audience to consider the patterns they see in themselves and the world around them.
