RITUALS was my first DMA recital at the University of South Carolina and my first completely solo recital. My previous two recitals had both been all original music, and so this recital came with the challenge of putting as much soul and intentionality into other people's music as I would my own. The word "rituals" has the obvious association with dark themes that can be seen in these works, but it also refers to the way we spend our time daily. The habits that we build and the expectations we create for our day-to-day life. Because my wife and I made the big move to South Carolina, a lot changed and new rituals formed (both good and bad ones). A lot of life is filled with rituals whether we are intentional about them or not. This program ultimately asks you to think inward about the rituals that you follow in your own life.
