A Message from the Composer

Urbia is the urban take on the word, “Suburbia.” Suburbia, to me, describes this perfect suburb American Dream. One where the milk man stops by every week and you know all your neighbors by name. It made me question what the opposite of that dream would look like. With a combination of rhythmic, metallic sounds, and a visual stunning set-up, I wanted to create the imagery of a busy city at night. Throughout the work, you will hear people walking past you, rats crawling down alleys, and gunshots off in the distance. The danger and mystery that comes with the dark can be terrifying and exciting. This work uses drastic dynamics and intense rhythm to always keep you on your toes. In this fictional city, there is no guessing what is around the next corner or if you are even safe. There is no telling here in Urbia.
